Painkillers

This is an island cocktail made famous at the Soggy Dollar Bar located in White bay on Jost Van Dyke, in the British Virgin Islands. The bar is so named as they really only have one way of getting to it, and that is to moor your boat and swim in (unless of course you use a dinghy or happen to be staying at the Sandcastle Hotel there) However, in my humble opinion, it is much more fun to swim in, enjoy a painkiller there and watch the bartender hang all the money on a clothesline behind the bar or go enjoy one of the hammocks and dry off a bit while enjoying one of these potent yet fruity libations.

This is my adaptation for a batch I use for parties using a good dark rum as the original uses Pussers rum and is hard to find outside the Islands and quite expensive even if you can.

  • 1 Can Pineapple Juice
  • 4 cup Cream of Coconut (Coco Lopez)*
  • 4 cup Orange Juice
  • 4 cup Dark Rum (Cruzan is my favorite)
  • 20 oz Grand Marnier or Triple Sec
  • Nutmeg for garnish on top
*If you can't get a big can of Coco lopez just use like 2-3 small I think and Goya or other brand is just as good. Just make sure it is Cream of Coconut, not coconut milk (Crema de coco no leche de coco!)

I use a big bottle (gallon), a large measuring cup with ounce markings, and a funnel.
Pour all ingredints except nutmeg into bottle and shake, shake , shake.
You can adjust to taste.
Shake before serving too

To serve-
Fill cups/glasses with ice
Pour in Painkiller mix and grate fresh nutmeg on top (or a pinch or so of pregrated)

Enjoy! These are smooth and lethal!
